One of the VCSC's greatest assets is the high calibre of its teaching staff. As well as being qualified early childhood educators, many have a Master's Degree in education. All are current in the First Aid "Child Safe" training. As well all have have undergone a criminal background check.

The teachers are all actively involved in the early child hood community locally as well as provincially and nationally. They have hosted both regional and national conferences and workshops.

Our staff fill leadership roles in the Canadian Association for Young Children, the Reggio Connection, the University of British Columbia's Institute for Early Childhood and the The Community Care and Assisted Living Appeal Board.

In 2002, six of our teachers travelled to Reggio Emilia, Italy as part of the Canadian delegation that took part in a one-week study tour of the world-renowned early childhood schools.

Our school is a much sought after site for practicum student placements form local colleges. The staff very much enjoy mentoring these young teachers in training.

The VCSC and its teachers are featured in Susan Fraser's book "Authentic Childhood - Experiencing Reggio Emilia in the Classroom" (Nelson Thompson Learning, 2002). The book describes our collaboration with Sue towards implementing the Reggio Approach in a Canadian context.
